Lepanto man discovers 4.87 carat diamond

A Lepanto man discovered a 4.87-carat diamond at the Crater of Diamonds State Park.

Jerry Evans visited the park for the first time this spring and within 10 minutes of entering the diamond search field, Evans picked up what he thought was a clear piece of glass that he saw on top of a plowed ridge.

Evans then sent the stone to the Gemological Institute of America for identification and was told that he had found a nearly colorless diamond.

Evan’s diamond is the largest find registered since a 9.07-carat brown diamond was found on Labor Day of 2020.

Evans named his diamond ‘Evans Diamond.’ It is said to by the size of a jellybean and shaped like a pyramid.
